The Whitby Hotel NY
Playful and sumptuous in the unlikeliest of combinations – this is the Whitby Hotel hotel in Midtown Manhattan. British designer Kit Kemp and husband Tim are the pair behind the popular hub, it joins their portfolio of ten well-regarded hotels across London and New York, which come under the Firmdale Hotels umbrella. The Whitby Hotel is located in the heart of upper Midtown Manhattan, within walking distance of Central Park, some of New York’s leading restaurants, art galleries, museums and top tier fashion boutiques.
In her distinctive, identifiable style, Kit Kemp masters an explosive melange of colour, pattern and texture. An eye for modern art and sculpture marries well with her playful sensibility for creating brilliant, unexpected combinations.
86 uniquely styled bedrooms across 16 floors have been individually fit-out with beautifully designed bathrooms, offering fragrant lavender and eucalyptus balms and soaps designed by Kit herself.
Guests are also treated to a state-of-the-art cinema, conservatory and library and for the lucky ones that are staying in the two-bedroom Whitby Suite, two sweeping terraces with breathtaking views of Manhattan.
Oversized headboards stand tall and vibrant in signature printed fabrics, accompanied by matching scatter cushions and upholstered armchairs in perfectly complemented colourways. Rooms are designed with the intention of not feeling too formal, but rather playful with a lively mishmash of bright fabrics.
The ceilings in communal areas are adorned with dozens of hanging baskets, reminiscent of fishing villages in the United Kingdom. Guests of The Whitby also have the option of a high tea banquet, at which they can indulge in sophisticated delights like scrambled eggs with truffle vinaigrette or a smoked salmon finger sandwich. Scones with clotted cream and preserves are also obviously a must!
