In a very different direction from IKEA’s homogenous materiality, ‘Sinnerlig’ is a new collection from London-based Studioilse headed by Ilse Crawford of earthy and tactile pieces. Ranging from daybeds to water pitchers, IKEA are bringing soul back to the masses.

‘Sinnerlig’ has a very 1970’s material palette of cork, seagrass, bamboo, glass and ceramics, all imbued with the refinement of Crawford’s tailored perfection. Although, she notes that these are subtle background pieces the purity of their carefully considered form, function and materiality will elevate any furnishing dialogue. At once feminine and soft, they are nurturing in spirit. Fine black steel frames disappear so that the simple materiality of cork, timber and fabric are celebrated. The glass and ceramic vessels are robust and tactile. Seagrass baskets and bamboo woven lights compliment and enhance the organic palette.

IKEA has always strived to bring good design to the people, and with their new Swedish head of design Marcus Engman and Studioilse’s contribution, we’re getting a hint of a brighter future for all.
