The Beauty of Travel

It’s been seven years since I’ve travelled with Juliette. Sure, we’ve been busy – the projects, babies, collaborations, moving the studio, starting In/Out. The opportunity to go to LA came up, and almost overnight, we jumped at the chance, proving we can still be spontaneous despite our family and work commitments! It hardly felt like work at all – meeting with potential clients, sourcing amazing local design and vintage furniture, all with a side of organic salad and a cocktail (or two). I always think choosing hotels is half the fun of any trip, and The Pali House in Santa Monica didn’t disappoint. We also couldn’t resist returning to Chateau Marmont for old-school glamour at its absolute best.

In/Out: The beauty of travel

I couldn’t imagine a better place than LA to launch our new international interview series exploring what ‘living a beautiful life’ means (our new tagline for In/Out). We are approaching a decade at our interior design studio Arent&Pyke, and we now look at the studio, our projects, our staff and In/Out with the same overall view – how can we inject joy into the everyday? We want to explore how people are inspired to live a beautiful life. And we want to share these insights via our work and with our In/Out community. The talented and fun team of Julie Adams and Elsa Morgan helped us capture five incredible stories.

Tomorrow we publish our first interview from the LA Stories series. The talented actor, Simone Kessell talks to us about what living a beautiful life means to her, from her incredible home in the Hollywood Hills that she shares with her writer/director husband and sons. The house is one of the oldest in the area, dating back to 1903 and was in fact once owned by both Sir Ian McKellen and Robert Downey Jr. If those walls could talk…

We are so proud to again partner with Cult Design for Chairity Project 2016. This year, with the future classic Officina chair, we tailored a slip cover and resurfaced the legs to personify the chair with a dinner jacket and bow tie, weaving new narrative into an industrial object. Our charity this year is National Breast Cancer Foundation. Read all about the collaboration on the site here. The online auction is now open for registration and will go live on 17th of November so start bidding… and giving.
