India Mahdavi for Pierre Frey
Designer and architect India Mahdavi’s new collection of velvet textiles for French fabrics house Pierre Frey has stolen our hearts at IN/OUT! Mahdavi is known for her work on interiors for fashion houses Louis Vuitton and Givenchy as well as The Gallery at sketch London and various luxury hotels around the world. For this collaboration with Pierre Frey she was inspired by the texture of velvet, in its evocation of sensuality and richness, and the potential this carries to bring a design to life.
The collection for Pierre Frey, aptly named ‘True Velvet’ is Mahdavi’s first venture into textiles and the result is an explosion of colour and texture, reminiscent of her vibrant interiors. Available in over 80 different shades, ‘True Velvet’ offers a palette that is luxurious and bold. Textiles in this collection come in three different weights; a fine cotton, medium cotton and a bold cotton/mohair blend.
In colourways of dark pink, navy blue, mustard yellow and olive green, the collection also includes two, worldly geometric prints of diamonds and stripes on velvet, which work to complement the diverse range of rich colours.
Judging by the originality and success of the ‘True Velvet’ collection thus far, we have a feeling this will not be the end of Mahdavi’s work with textiles!
