Annie Costello Brown, the jewellery du jour from LA
Annie Costello Brown, the jewellery designer du jour epitomises the cool creative L.A. scene we are lapping up right now…
Annie Costello Brown, or ACB has grown a feverish following among the fashion crowd. Yet it seems the designer herself is content without the spotlight, the big investors, and the large retailers…. Annie Costello Brown just wants to create, by hand, her finest work – to keep the label contained so that she is involved in every piece. An inspired strategy from a true artist – ACB jewellery is fearless – bold, strong, of scale. A sophisticated tribal vibe of geometric pieces made from precious metals crafted in gold, silver, brass and sometimes the purest of colour like the Matisse chandelier earrings in a magnetic bolt of cool oxidised cobalt. The cult following also wax lyrical about a weightlessness of the pieces that is hard to resist – a tactile creation that is easily adorned.
It appears Annie was destined for this gig. Raised on a houseboat in the San Francisco Bay area, Annie was influenced by a bohemian mix of artists, artisans and creatives. Her first job was an after-school bead-stringing affair. After enrolling in the San Francisco Art Institute for painting, it seems her first love kept calling. In 2006, the label was born. But it’s ten years later that it’s firmly on our horizon, wish list, and adding, with gusto to cart.
