Rodarte Fall 2018

By Thea Kiel
February 23, 2018

Rodarte’s Fall 2018 collection is painterly and ethereal, transporting you to a world of decadent glamour, ladies adorned in tulle, ruffles and lace and armed with buoyant parasols. The collection has been captured by American photographer Autumn de Wilde, through photographic portraits (or “more like, character studies” ) of friends, women of all ages. A painted scenic backdrop encapsulates an era of Hollywood romance, with freshly cut roses and cherry blossoms – the drama ensues.

The cast of models includes a heavily pregnant Kirsten Dunst, musician Grimes, R’n’B duo Chloe and Halle, film director Gia Coppola, and actress Danai Gurira, to name a few. Women appear as if they are playing dress ups, posing as characters from the 1900’s. Intricate details adorn the garments, what could be mistaken as simple dots on tulle are in fact microscopic bows and embroidered roses. It’s a collection that presents itself seemingly close to Parisian haute couture but with intention to have its own creative interpretation amongst an international audience.

With a parade show this season to follow their memorable 2017 showing in the cloister gardens of an ancient hospital in Paris, the Mulleavy sisters presented their Fall 2018 collection to a room of buyers and press, enchanting them through story with Autumn de Wilde’s evocative photo album.

Another confident season from Rodarte, disengaging from the rat race of fashion and paving their own way through a collection that invites wonder and intrigue whilst providing an artful experience.
