Claire Oswalt is a Texas-based American multi-disciplinary artist – her work spans drawing, painting, and sculpture. The minimal watercolour collage compositions and subdued palette are a lesson in restraint. After two years designing textiles with a fellow artist, she returned to craft and her daily life in the studio. Oswalt began redirecting the discipline towards watercolour on paper relying on “the energy behind quick decisions, and the ruthlessness to pair the work down to the essential.” She seeks to juxtapose spontaneity with restraint, dynamic with static, until reaching a harmonious form, largely worked over, yet clear in its intention to never show it.
Claire’s work has shown in Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Austin, and Marfa, Texas.
