Shapeup – Ladies and Gentleman Studio
The latest collection ‘Shape Up’ by Seattle based duo Dylan Davis and Jean Lee from ‘Ladies & Gentleman Studio’ is serenely playful. Beautifully considered objects, this ensemble of pendants, table lamps and acrobatic assemblages of materiality are all compositions in compatible shapes.
The ‘Shape Up’ pendant – made up of a metal cone, glass sphere, cylinder, and arc, all threaded together with coloured cotton flex – is completely adaptable to any environment. Whether used in a combination or singular, heights are adjusted with solid brass counterweights and pulley hardware.
It’s not just the shapes of this collection that make them so covetable but also the use of materials. Brass, copper and timber nestle or hover on corian plinths. Blown glass baubles float on strings and cast glass shades, thick and weighty, ground their base.
Affectionately handcrafted, Davis and Lee create the metal, timber and corian components in-house and draw on the talents of contemporaries like John Hogan for his hand-blown and cast glass skills. It’s exciting to watch the progression of this talented duo as they go from strength to strength.
