Festive Style with Marimekko
Yes, it’s that time of year again. Some festive inspiration from IN/OUT for giving and getting merry with your loved ones, from the beautiful Christmas fabric collection from Marimekko. Handmade in Helsinki, and just as at home in the Australian summer…
Preparing, entertaining, wrapping – from bespoke bonbons to the pudding presented in your favourite print, getting creative makes for a stylish and fun festive season.
One of my favourite things to do is wake up really early on Christmas morning to set the table. I put on Bing Crosby’s ‘White Christmas’ album because it reminds me of my grandfather and I really get in the zone. Most of the time I have already planned the colour theme for the year and this year I am making it a Marimekko theme, I have bought small antique trinkets from bric-a-brac markets to put inside my handmade bonbons.
The night before Christmas day I always ask my Dad aka ‘Chopper’ to cut me fresh Christmas bush from the garden to decorate the house – this is the best native Australian bloom and lasts so long. Tip: Christmas bush drinks its water from the flower heads, so make sure you spray them to get their thirst quenched.
For me, the festive season is all about sharing time with my loved ones – so I focus less on the gift giving and more of the eating, drinking and being merry. But if you do feel the need to give gifts, then handmade is always the best – this year I am making homemade jams with Marimekko fabric lids.
Happy Holidays!
