Ulla Johnson’s whimsical world on Bleecker Street
As you approach Ulla Johnson’s stunning new boutique on New York’s Bleecker St, you are greeted by a pair of dreamy cedar trees and freshly bloomed hellebores that welcome you to the whimsical wonderful that lies within. Upon opening the custom bronze door handle, created by Rogan Gregory, there’s no doubting the store belongs to the richly layered and bohemian-like aesthetic of Ulla Johnson – with travertine lined walls and soft, warm tones, the store is a treasure waiting to be discovered by all who visit New York City.
A true celebration of beauty and optimism, the store was designed in collaboration with the architect, Elizabeth Roberts and interior designer Alexis Brown, as well as an array of artists who created bespoke pieces for the store. Hanging in the front parlour is a custom glass pendant by lighting designer, Lindsey Adelman and towards the back of the store is a beautifully woven wall hanging by artist Tanya Aguiniga. Every detail of the boutique had been considered – having a strong handmade ethos, working with inspiring craftsmen and women was of great importance for Johnson. She stocks handmade jewellery from Pippa Small and Sonia Boyajian and even had a friend create an organic wild-sourced fragrance to be diffused through the space.
