Redbird restaurant, Los Angeles
Redbird is the latest restaurant by chef Neal Fraser and his wife/business partner Amy Knoll Fraser, which opened its doors in 2014. The restaurant is located inside LA’s first Archdiocese Catholic cathedral, which is one of the city’s oldest buildings.
Robert Weimer, who has worked with the Fraser’s for previous restaurants including Grace, Fritzi Dog and BLD, designed the space. A designer’s dream foundation, Weimer drew off the church’s Baroque-inspired Italianate structure to combine modern design elements to introduce a new life into the space. Inspired by the existing architecture, Weimer incorporated archways, geometric angles, high beams, marble and Cathedral painting motifs into the interior. These elements are juxtaposed with daring furniture and lighting, which injects colour into the restaurant.
Magenta banquettes and tan leather bar stools are scattered amongst the main dining room patio, which features a retractable ceiling so guests can see the skyline and soak up the Californian sunshine or moonlight.
The restaurant also features two private dining rooms, which are aptly named Bishop’s Perch and Cardinal’s Quarters for guests who want to participate in a more private dining experience.
LA calling yet again, and we’d like a reservation at Redbird, please…
