INSIDEOUT: DECEMBER 2012
In interior design, it is always a thrill to see your work come to fruition, and all those months of design and careful planning and decisions come together. To have your finished project shared in the press is like the icing on the cake! We are so proud to see our beautiful Sydney Harbour-side project featured in the Jan-Feb issue of InsideOut.
Finished just 18 months ago, this grand home designed by Bruce Stafford Architects stretches luxuriously over 3 levels, with breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour. For the owners, such a sleek and contemporary space complete with its concrete floors, vast expanses of glass and dramatic timber cladding raised some feelings of apprehension that the new home would not feel homely and comfortable.
Arent&Pyke were enlisted at the concrete-pouring stage to help with the decisions regarding furnishings, finishes and colours to ensure that the home was livable. Initially wary of colour, the clients were encouraged to be open to print and pattern to ensure that the home avoided feeling cold and bland and overly neutral. A highly detailed brief was taken from the clients about how they lived, and used their living spaces – as functionality, comfort and connection are paramount in our approach to successful decoration and design.
The clients signaled a desire to recreate the comfort and calm they felt on family holidays in their daily living spaces – so careful attention was taken to ensure that the home felt natural and livable, and that everything could be sat on or touched. I think we achieved that!
