Ett Hem Stockholm, an experience like no other
Last week we took you on a tour through Stockholm’s most luxurious yet personal boutique hotel, Ett Hem – winner of Mr & Mrs Smith best dressed hotel 2015 and for good reason. We showed you the common areas that create the feeling of home rather than hotel. Today we revisit the space with a focus on the rooms.
The hotel can merely be described as pure magic, adorned with an eclectic mix of designer furniture and eloquent antiques, all arranged within a delightful 1913 ‘Arts and Crafts’ townhouse. Ett Hem has an overwhelming ability to endear people with a sense of well-being and joy, it captures the essence of ‘home’ with freshly picked posies on bedside tables and open fires warming the rooms. At Ett Hem everyday is like waking up on a crisp Sunday morning to the smell of freshly baked muffins and brewing coffee…

Ett Hem is a profound example of houses that carry the atmosphere of the past. The early 1900’s was a time that the ‘everyday’ was celebrated, the home became the focus of arts and life, a movement towards the handmade and owning objects that weren’t necessarily required but offered joy. This idea became a core principle in the creation of the 12 Ett Hem rooms, to move away from opulent luxury and to make the ordinary, extraordinary. Owner, Janette Mix employed Ilse Crawford (deemed ‘woman of the senses’), to design the hotel’s interiors. Ilse is no stranger when it comes to creating exquisite interiors, especially those obtaining a rich history and grander. Her knowledge of anthropology and the way humans interact with space is exhibited in the design of Ett Hem, the goal – to integrate the experience of place with design. The rooms and suites are all individual and the consideration of every detail was made to enhance the way individuals feel and experience a room, and to satisfy the sub conscience.
All of Ett Hem’s rooms possess a feeling of sophistication and elegance, each with an individual blend of contemporary, bespoke and vintage furniture and carefully selected artwork (some of which are from the owner’s personal collection). Materiality is enhanced by the contrast of colour and texture – parquet timber overlaid with woollen rugs, solid brass against velvet cushions and hand painted ceramic tiles in situ with rich leather armchairs, making for a luxurious experience in whichever room you choose. On their recent stay, along with Great Dane Furniture, our founders Sarah-Jane and Juliette described Ett Hem as “an experience like no other, absolutely sublime” and we can most certainly see why …
