This & That: James Ettelson & Parlour X
Arthouse Gallery has collaborated with luxe fashion emporium Parlour X to create a covetable collision of fashion and art, or art and fashion…
James Ettelson
‘Garden Crashers’, the current exhibition by James Ettelson at Arthouse Gallery features large-scale acrylic paintings and is the vivid backdrop to the season’s best style as curated by Parlour X. Styled by Parlour X’s Eva Galambos, each outfit has been matched to the artwork – with a heady mix of designers including Céline, Valentino, Balenciaga, Fendi and Acne Studios.
The paintings in James Ettelson’s exhibition draw from the artist’s Instagram alter ego ‘Garden Crashers’, dedicated to his long-held obsession with gardens. With photos taken at Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Darling Point, Scott’s Head and the Byron Bay region, the artist captures the restorative tonic of a garden setting in a world devoted to technological – as opposed to natural – landscapes. The paintings in ‘Garden Crashers’ mark a formal refinement of Ettelson’s meticulous style. His carefully articulated tapestry of truncated lines, kaleidoscopic patterns and pools of psychedelic colour channel the idiosyncrasies of human identity that underlie each garden.
James Ettelson’s ‘Garden Crashers’ is showing at Arthouse Gallery until the 29th of October.
