Melbourne Art Week
Taking place in multiple venues within Southbank’s Arts Precinct, Melbourne Art Fair returns once again to enliven the city’s streets. With a diverse program which will see over 50 Victorian cultural organisations, institutions, art spaces and galleries unite to deliver a series of talks, performances, workshops, exhibitions and events, “it will be an opportunity to deep-dive into the best in contemporary art,” says Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley.
For four days, from August 2-5, the fair will showcase a wide variety of works and anchors at the annual Melbourne Art Week.
Led by the Melbourne Art Foundation in conjunction with Associate Partner, MLC Life Insurance, this year’s commissioned body of work ‘Lizard Tail (Dawn)’ has been embraced as the cornerstone of the Melbourne Art experience. Created by Japanese-born, Australian-based artist Hiromi Tango, the performance piece echoes the ethos of the event, promoting interactivity and the development of individual, social and cultural connections.
In addition to Tango’s pieces will be works from both new and established artists, exhibiting in solo presentations and group shows. The fair will also debut ‘TIME’, a curated edit of films which focus on the activities of female practitioners: exploring topics of time and space, the netherworld and contemporary culture in terms of gender and body, among other concepts.
With an extensive list of artists, curators and speakers, Melbourne Art Week is set to deliver us a program that is as exciting as it is engaging.
Exhibition will run from August 2-5.
