LA Stories
Los Angeles has long been a city that awakens the creative spirit, a firm favourite here at In/Out by Arent&Pyke. Perhaps it’s the feeling of freedom, of endless sunshine, a place where anything can happen, where eccentricity abounds and where dreams are followed and often, realised. A little bit like our own lucky country in fact. There is so much to love – the design scene, the energy, the showrooms, food, shopping and the endless list of inspiring people.
So what inspires us to live a beautiful life? We are on a quest to uncover what this means to creative individuals from all over the world. First stop – LA, where the founders of In/Out met with five residents of LA to reveal what beauty means to them and get some insider tips on living life in the City of Angels.
The founders of In/Out, Juliette Arent and Sarah-Jane Pyke made a special pilgrimage to LA recently – to meet with clients for the Arent&Pyke interior design studio, to visit the many wonderful showrooms and to shoot our first international interview series for In/Out. They stayed at both the charming Pali House in Santa Monica and the legendary Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, and snuck in a few cocktails and excellent coffee too…
Simone Kessell, the Australian actress invited In/Out to her home in the Hollywood Hills – a house that almost begs for the walls to talk… One of the oldest homes in Hollywood, it was previously owned by Sir Ian McKellen and Robert Downey Jr.
At the uber cool Gjelina in Venice, Juliette and Sarah-Jane met the ever inspiring Jodie Fried from Armadillo&Co who’s been living in LA now for almost a decade running her business remotely, raising children, and about to embark on a major house renovation with Australian architect Hannah Tribe.
Over in Downtown, In/Out met George Byrne, the Australian photographer/artist in his studio, talked beauty in all its forms and visited his favourite diner. Living the LA dream with a good dose of reality…
Claire Vivier, the LA-based accessories designer, was photographed at her studio and in one of her fabulous stores. Our interview will reveal the inspiration behind the super successful brand, Clare V, that we absolutely love. Colour, wit and many, many temptations…
Juliette’s friend Lara Einzig, former Goop fashion director, and the inspiration behind @aquadorium welcomed In/Out into her Santa Monica family bungalow and led the team through the streets of Venice to the beach for surfing and chats about living a beautiful life… which indeed she does.
Join us as we reveal these interviews over the coming weeks in our LA Stories series, plus some of Juliette and Sarah-Jane’s favourite stores, restaurants, and hotels.
Living a beautiful life, LA style.
