Ben & Aja Blanc
Uncomplicated forms in familiar materials have never looked so spectacularly desirable as Rhode Islanders, Ben & Aja Blanc, make them look.
70’s shag style fringing, in silk and mohair, drapes from semi circular clean edged mirrors in ‘Half Moon’ and ‘Apollo’, and the ‘Half Moon Coffee Table’, an oak triangle and semi circular marble slab, is perfection in proportion and composition. ‘Marble Plinths’ of Imperial Danby marble feel good enough to eat like oversized pristine sugar cubes, while the ‘Pillar Side Tables’ turned timber legs huddle together, almost touching at the base, they taper off elegantly to balance their oak top. And that ‘Moon Light’ in glass and bronze with LED……pure magic.
All of Ben & Aja Blancs’ pieces have a precision of execution that only comes from extensive prototyping and immaculate pursuit of materiality, a diligence that leads to heavenly objects. It’s no wonder that they were included in The American Design Hot-List.
