Amidst the severity of the times, the nostalgia and delight of Assoulin’s envisaged beachside getaway is full of childhood classics – an umbrella pitched in the sand, striped sundresses, picnic plaids and messages of thanks, love and hope bedazzled over t-shirt backs. It’s a deliberate hand meant to delight; a fantasy of retrotastic florals, hibiscus motifs, bows, smocks, pinafores, baskets and tassels. Cheeks and hairs are dusted with delicate petals, sunkissed skin flush with promise.
Assoulin’s Spring is a kitsch and charismatic collection of sophisticated souvenirs, a collective celebration of the delights of youth.
