Charlotte Chesnais Collection III
Elementally pure, the fluid lines and abstract shapes of Paris-based jeweller Charlotte Chesnais bring a fresh perspective to the art of embellishment.
With nine years alongside Nicolas Ghesquière, Chesnais piloted the launch of Balenciaga’s much-coveted jewellery line after refining her skills studying at the Studio Berçot in Paris. Her own collection launched in 2012 is now in its third incarnation, frankly named, Collection III.
The re-imagined purity and classicism of Chesnais’ little sculptures wrap the body with fluid elegance, deftly refined they become one with the wear. Coiling within and curving against the arcs and dips of the body the precious metals balance organic haphazardry with delicately-structured refinement.
There is a Brancusi-esque weightlessness with which Chesnais orchestrates the meeting points of the precious materials of gold, silver and vermeil with the wearer’s body. Chesnais’ collection shifts and unfolds, then, momentarily rests like a mobile delicately balanced against the human body.
