Outdistance: a series by Derek Swalwell
From tomorrow, Melbourne-based artist, Derek Swalwell’s new exhibition ‘Outdistance’ will be on display at Modern Times in Fitzroy.
For this exhibition, Swalwell has focussed on architecture depicted through photographic expression, his first solo exhibition at the Melbourne design destination, “takes an intimate look at the works of famed architects Carlo Scarpa, Aldo Rossi and Carlo Aymonino” through an unorthodox lens.
Captured by Swalwell in Italy, the series explores the interplay of light and design, examining the way in which “the design of a building contributes to its changing throughout the day upon the trajectory of the sun” says Swalwell. “I became interested in how the light worked through buildings”.
His pieces pay tribute to these architectural masterpieces, revealing a new narrative around the significant structures.
If you’re in Melbourne between September 27th and October 7th, be sure to catch this promising exhibition.
