‘Seats – Studies of Furniture Designed by Women’ at Rachel Comey, NYC
Our admiration for both fashion designer Rachel Comey and illustrator Leanne Shapton is well documented. Imagine our delight in the collaboration of these two chic creative women, for a project that celebrates the work of female furniture designers…
‘Seats – Studies of Furniture Designed by Women’ is a two-week exhibition featuring over one hundred watercolor-and-ink-drawings by Leanne Shapton at Rachel Comey‘s SoHo flagship store.
The artwork draws inspiration from the iconic (and importantly the often-unrecognised), female furniture designers over the last century. Some of those included are Eileen Gray, Patricia Urquiola, Cini Boeri, Florence Knoll, Gigi Sabadin, Nanna Ditzel, and Greta Magnusson-Grossman.
Comey and Shapton happened upon the concept a few years ago while curating furniture for Comey’s Crosby Street flagship and unable to find almost anything designed by women.
We can’t all be in New York , so here’s a test – match the illustration to the designer. And then spread the work of these clever women about the other clever women before them. What an inspired project from two fabulous friends, Comey and Shapton.
If you’re lucky enough to be in the area, you can visit the exhibition until the 17th of August at the Rachel Comey flagship store, 95, Crosby Street, New York.
