Leah Fraser – ‘Within You Without You’
Sydney based artist, Leah Fraser’s latest exhibition ‘Within You, Without You’ is intricately detailed and dream-like, exploring the cycle of life through anthropomorphic characters that weave their way in to and and out of a whimsical landscape…
The magical experience of becoming a mother was a big influence for Leah in the creation of the collection, prompting her to contemplate the process of life and how “birth and death are irrevocably linked”. Through the inspiration of ancient myths – gods and goddesses with the power of creation and of destruction – the works became a narrative of metamorphism and the origins of life. Laced through each of the paintings are mystical creatures who linger in the trees and dance their way through an almost hypnotising land, nurtured by spiritual beings and guarded from dark forces.
The collection instills feelings of both serenity and fierce emotion through the depiction of mythological subjects that intertwine themselves with the surrounding nature – an experience that can only be described as ‘otherworldly’…
The exhibition is showing at the Arthouse Gallery until this Saturday the 18th of March, a must see collection.
