House of Finn Juhl, a Hotel in Hakuba

In the small Japanese town of Hakuba, a new boutique hotel calls to inquisitive travellers.

In a valley surrounded by the Japanese Alps, inspiring Danish Interior style marries with Japanese craftsmanship to create a distinguished accommodation experience at The Finn Juhl Hotel.

The immersive experience has been produced by Onecollection, the design company who bought the rights to produce Juhl’s designs from his widow in 1998. Decorated entirely with renowned Danish architect, interior designer and industrial designer Finn Juhl’s furniture, the hotel is the first of its kind.

With only six rooms, each named after specific Juhl masterpieces, the hotel focuses on comfort and design sensibility, with a contemporary take on the traditional ski lodge in the mountains. Attention to the expression of both Danish and Japanese aesthetics is cleverly executed through soft furnishings, art and materials with all spaces exuding a quiet elegance.

The public areas are too, dressed with the designer’s classics. Walls are adorned in Juhl’s drawings and sketches.

The purpose of these spaces is to invite guests to linger in the three lounges, offering moments to reflect on their experience whilst celebrating the unique aesthetic.

Functioning as both a destination accommodation offering as well as a showroom displaying Juhl’s pieces as unique stand-alone works alongside beautiful compositions, it is altogether a perfect realisation for a man who was a leading figure in Danish aesthetics.
