The Grand Ferdinand hotel is truly grand in every sense of the word – from magnificent glass chandeliers (hand-made according to old designs by traditional Vienna glass-maker Lobmeyr) to sweeping staircases – and it is beaming with Viennese elegance. Purchased by Florian Weitzer of Weitzer Hotels, the recently revamped 188-room three-restaurant hotel on the Schubertring is not a mere nod to the old glory days but a loud, beaming celebration of them.

The hotel is one of timeless beauty and extravagance. To Florian Weitzer this comes down to “a matter of attitude”, the utter elegance born from a sense of tradition, but it is – as the hotelier says about “moving forward, not by looking back”. The Vienna of the Ringstraße era is romanticised and energised in the Grand Ferdinand for the guests of today. From the courtyard oasis and rooftop pool to the wooden furnishings, leather buttoned benches, gold-rimmed porcelain and silverware from Wiener Silber Manufactur, there really is a sense of noble elegance from days gone by.

In every room, (all which are custom-designed from the EUR 30 per night Airbnb-bookable rooms, to the grand suite – Weitzer wanted to make the elegant experience accessible to all) is a careful composition of classic and contemporary elements. The rooms have a sophisticated palette and a layered story, their ornate headboards in stark glossy white sitting alongside saddle leather-rimmed mirrors, green buttoned chaises, articulated industrial lighting, parquetry floors, and rich charcoal grey blue walls.

Austrian through and through, the Grand Ferdinand is a hotel of grand composition and glamour.
