Jardan’s Sydney Flagship Store
Entering Jardan’s new Sydney flagship store is like stepping into a beautiful design bubble. It’s a space filled with colour, light, soft textures and tactile materials that you just can’t wait to touch. The flagship is located within the heritage Adelstein Buildings – an Art-Deco jewel situated on a leafy corner in the heart of Paddington.
Jardan commissioned architect Iva Foschia of IF Architecture to transform the existing building into a spectacular showroom. The intention was to reflect Jardan’s personality through the design, as well as to create an original space that would hold its own in Sydney’s vibrant art and design history.
On her approach Iva explains that she “wanted to express the way that colour has influenced the culture of the city, and in the process, pay homage to the Australian families who have helped us to better understand them through art and design.”
For the colour palette and lighting concepts, Iva drew inspiration from local influential artists such as Brett Whiteley, John Olsen, Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy (of Dinosaur Designs) and interior designer Marion Hall Best.
As well as being visually striking, Iva has cleverly used colour as a tool to create subtle shifts between each of the rooms. The manipulation of colour effectively sets the mood and ignites different feelings as you move seamlessly throughout the showroom. The space transitions between whites, blues, greens, oranges, pinks, grays and blacks – as inspired by French-Swiss architect, Le Corbusier.
One of the showroom’s many highlights is the pink angular staircase which connects the three floors together. Painted in variations of soft pink, the staircase is made up of pink stone, timber parquetry floorboards and stunning handrails. It is the heart of the flagship and a standout feature of the space – having already been labelled the most Instagrammed staircase in Australia. Positioned under an elaborate skylight, the window allows sunshine to pour through the building, creating a sparkling effect against the pink and gold.
Perfectly capturing the colours of Sydney’s seasons and taking heed from the artists who have shaped the Australian art and design industry, Iva Foschia and Jardan have created a truly inspiring interior which will leave you feeling completely design-inspired and wanting one of everything, no doubt.
