The Magical World of Delpozo

Josep Font’s pre-fall 2018 collection for esteemed Spanish couture house Delpozo is a vision of colour, romance, and impeccable design.

The collection is as bold as it is romantic; with pleated skirts, tailored pantsuits, twin sets, structured dresses and oversized coats with elaborate bows.

Soft pastels sit harmoniously alongside deep hues and neon shades. Fabrics come alive with abstract floral prints and embroidered sequinned embellishments.

Originally trained as an architect, Font approaches fashion design with a distinct focus on structure and technicality.

The collection is targeted toward feminine, strong women, who are as interested in elegance as they are practicality. Delpozo’s design philosophy “embraces time-honoured couture techniques with a modern sensibility to create unique and feminine pieces for the contemporary woman.”

For Delpozo’s pre-fall 2018 collection, Font was inspired by the work of photographers Franco Fontana and Luke Stephenson. The soft tones of Fontana’s landscapes and seascapes have been interpreted in the colour palette where blush pinks, pastel blues, mint greens and aquamarines playfully coincide. The result is a dream-like, captivating aesthetic, designed to appear at ease with the natural world.

Models are portrayed in the company of parrots, galahs, lovebirds and other exotic birds whose exquisite colours have been mirrored in Font’s garments.

Slippers dotted with abstract bows are a nod to Font’s architectural background, and demonstrate his creative approach to volume, construction, and detail. The collection displays Font’s penchance for romance, with a beautiful appreciation and consideration for the female silhouette.

Founded originally by Jesus del Pozo in Madrid in 1974, Josep Font came on board as creative director in 2012 and breathed new life into the Spanish fashion house, which has recently opened a second store on London’s Sloane Street. Font has introduced masterful handmade embroidery to the brand’s collections, a truly avant-garde addition – his vision for the brand married with his technical background has been instrumental to Delpozo’s success.

Upon viewing this collection, you immediately feel as though you’ve stepped into a fairytale, where the garments are whimsical, the colour palette is sublime and the prints have the power to transport you to other realms.
